Congratulations to Colorado and Fayette Counties!

Before each election, LWV Texas recruits a team of volunteers to review all 254 county election websites in Texas. What a feat! Volunteers grade each website based on suggested county election website best practices.  Those websites that score especially well receive an "Outstanding" designation. County Election Administrators in those counties receive a certificate from LWVTX to recognize their county's exemplary website and the great service they are providing to their county's voters.

Colorado and Fayette Counties are two of only 35 of Texas' 254 counties to earn an "Outstanding" grade on their County Election websites. Congratulations to County Election Administrators Rebekah LaCourse (Colorado County) and Terri Hefner (Fayette County) for this noteworthy achievement!

Visit LWVTX's County Website page here - and see links to the 2022 General Election County Website report, the County Election Website Checklist,  suggested Best Practices, how all County Election websites scored this time around, and reports from past reviews

Many Thanks to Our Voters Guide Team!

More than a dozen amazing League volunteers kicked into high gear last month to distribute 2000 Voters Guides for the November 8 General Election throughout our South Central Texas area. Thank you to everyone who pulled together to get this done in time for the kickoff of early voting on October 8!

As our League has grown from one county to five - so has the task of getting Voters Guides out to libraries, community centers, post offices, coffee shops and other community spaces. We depend on volunteers to get them out as soon as they arrive so voters can have plenty of time to do their pre-election research, using Voters Guide's helpful nonpartisan information on candidates.

If you would like to help in the future, please let us know by  joining the Voters Guide interest group if you're a member (you can do that in your member profile area). If you're not (yet) a member, let us know you would like to help with an email.

Interview Your Texas House Representative

Our League - and all Texas Leagues - will be reaching out to members of the Texas Legislature before the 88th Legislative Session begins on January 10. We will be introducing (or re-introducing) our League to the legislators who represent our area, and talking with them to learn about their interests and priorities as they gear up for the next legislative session.

Our League will be reaching out to talk with Congressman Phil Stevenson (House District 85 representing Colorado and Fayette counties), and Congresswoman Geanie Morrison (House District 30 representing Lavaca and DeWitt counties). We will be conducting interviews in the way that works best for our representatives and volunteers - in person or via Zoom or conference call.

If you want to volunteer to be on our interview team, let us know. We will share a training video to help you get oriented and link you to the right interview team.

League Book Group

Our Next Book

At our November meeting, we selected Anthony Doerr's New York Time's best seller, Cloud Cuckoo Land: A Novel for the League Book Group's next book. We will discuss this book at our next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, January 18, 7:00 pm via Zoom.

Read about about this book and the Book Group on our website.

And, thank you to Becky Schenker for leading us in a fascinating discussion of Eric Larson's The Splendid and the Vile, our November book. Becky had great questions that took us in some interesting directions and made our meeting especially fun.
