Dear ~~first_name~~:
Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays because it reminds me to be more intentional about gratitude.
In Brene Brown’s Atlas of the Heart, gratitude is described as an emotion that reflects our deep appreciation for what we value, what brings meaning to our lives, and what makes us feel connected to ourselves and others. And while gratitude is an emotion, if we want to experience its full power, we must also make it a practice.
While these are indeed trying times, I know I have much for which to be thankful and I expect you do as well. I am grateful for each of you and for our work together through the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas.
- As you are practicing gratitude this Thanksgiving week and beyond, please think of women you might want to nominate for our 2025 Women Making History event. Think about friends, family members, neighbors, civic leaders and more, women who have enriched your life and the lives of people in our five county area. Our League website has information and nomination forms to share.
- Please also share information about the nomination opportunity with others--with family and friends and with groups and organizations of which you are aware or are a member. You can share the information or you can give me the name of the organization and contact info. You can call or text (512-497-1561) or email (hsniesner@gmail.com).
- Ask your bank or financial institution to be a sponsor of the Women Making History 2025 event on March 9. Our goal is to have ten sponsors at $500 each. If you feel comfortable making the ask, please do, or give me the name of the bank or financial institution and contact info.
Don’t forget, we are also doing the Student Writing Showcase – with three $500 scholarship awards –for area high school students to write essays and poems about Texas-wide women of generations past.
I am very grateful for all the women on whose shoulders we stand. We know about some, let's identify and honor more.
