Dear League of Women Voters Members:
You are invited to a "members only" showing of The Librarians, a powerful new documentary exploring the challenges facing public and school libraries today. After reconsidering our approach to an earlier planned screening, we've decided to keep this one intimate and limited to League members only.
When: Monday, January 19, 2026 at 1:30 (MLK Day)
Where: Majek’s Vineyard and Winery, 12508 FM 957, just south of Schulenburg
Who: League members and a few select Librarians
RSVP to Helen at 512-497-1561 by January 17
It is important that we know how many are coming so that we know whether to prepare the Tasting Room or the bigger facility.
Agenda: View the film and engage in conversation afterward to learn about:
In preparation for the viewing and to make the conversation productive:
- Read the documents linked above;
- Think about questions you might have for special guests Wendy Woodland, Director of Advocacy and Communications, Texas Library Association and Becky Calzada, District Library Coordinator, Leander, Texas who was instrumental in the production of this documentary);
- Think about whether we should nurture a relationship between area libraries and our local League in mutual support of civil liberties. And if so, how might we do that? For example, could we make a difference by further screening of the documentary, by energizing our Observer Corp to catch threats timely, by responding to action alerts on related state legislation, etc?
- And, if yes to the above, please consider volunteering to lead, co-lead, and/or help identify specific steps to build the relationship and to take action?
Hope to see you on the January 19!
