Dear South Central TX League Friends,
What an election! Across Texas, people were excited to vote and made it a priority, setting a new record for early voting in a midterm. This week was a powerful reminder that democracy isn't about any one leader or party. It's about the everyday people who make up our country, and what we can accomplish when we show up and make our voices heard!
This moment, and this message, are about gratitude! A special THANK YOU to each of you for your contributions, big and small.
You registered new voters, including high school students casting their very first ballots. You took the fear out of the polls with information sessions and mock elections on the voting equipment. You put Voter Dog signs all over our area to remind people to vote early. And many of you served as poll workers and election judges through long days of early voting and Election Day.
You also got information into voters' hands. Our Voters Guide ran in all 13 newspapers serving our area, giving voters clear, nonpartisan information about the candidates. You encouraged friends and neighbors, observed the public testing of voting equipment, and answered questions with patience and good humor.
And outside the League, you knocked on doors, wrote postcards, placed door hangers, gave rides, spoke up in your churches, clubs, and volunteer groups, and talked with others about why voting matters. All of it counts.
As we celebrate, let's remember that the League is here for the long haul. Democracy isn't a single election; it's the steady, everyday work of helping people stay informed and engaged. We are thrilled to be working toward our mission of empowering voters and defending democracy with each of you.
Look for turnout numbers and other election data in next week's newsletter.
Thank you for being part of the League. Together, we are making a real difference!
With appreciation,
Janis Richardson and Helen Niesner
